Long.

Saurabh Garg is a ghostwriter and biographer who writes authorised biographies, founder stories, memoirs and family legacy books for Indian and Indian-diaspora clients across seven countries. He has written in public since 2004 and published the novel The Nidhi Kapoor Story in 2014. He has been a founding partner at C4E, a marketing collective, since 2014, and built the Founder Thesis podcast with Akshay Datt. He takes one book at a time and publishes his fee, ₹25 lakh in India and US$25,000 elsewhere, which few writers in the market do and no Indian one did before him. More at sgwashere.com.

Story angles that hold up

Four things worth writing about, with the reason each is real rather than a pitch.

Nobody in India publishes a price

Of ten biography writers and services checked in August 2026, two published a fee and eight did not. None of the Indian ones did. The market runs on “book a consultation” and buyers have no way to calibrate.

The diaspora’s first year is unwritten

Families document the success and skip the arrival. In one generation the arrival is gone, because the only people who were there stop being available to ask.

Ghostwriting is not what people assume

The buyer is rarely a celebrity. It is a family with a grandfather in his eighties and a date on the calendar. The constraint is not writing ability. It is proximity.

What families ask to leave out

Every commission has a sensitive zone: the estrangement, the first marriage, the case still open. How a biographer handles it is a craft question and it is the most interesting part of the job.

Interviews and contributions

Available for interview on ghostwriting, biography, family history, the Indian diaspora and the economics of the book trade in India. Also available to write original pieces for publications rather than be quoted in them, which is often more useful to a community desk.

Write to press@sgwashere.com. Response inside 48 hours. No publicist, no approval process, no interview questions in advance.

Questions journalists ask

Can I quote the fee?

Yes. ₹25 lakh in India and US$25,000 elsewhere, per book, over six months. It is published at sgwashere.com/what-it-costs precisely so it can be quoted without a phone call.

Can you name your clients?

Mostly no, and that is the job. Ghostwriting runs on NDAs signed before any material changes hands. What can be said is the shape of the work: authorised biographies and family histories for Indian founders, industrialists and diaspora families.

Are the StoryHunt entries available to read?

No. No raw entry gets published, ever. Contributors keep copyright in their own material. Findings across the whole set can be written about, and that is the offer to editors.

Is there a photograph available?

Yes. Write to press@sgwashere.com and one comes back the same day, print resolution, no credit requirement beyond a name.

Writing about this? Ask me anything.

No publicist and no approval process. Write to press@sgwashere.com and you get a person inside 48 hours.
